• 1967 Graduated from the University of Washington School of Forestry in Forest Management
• 1967-1969 US Army Infantry Officer (Mountain Ranger Instructor) and Quartermaster Supply and Service Officer (Viet Nam)
• 1969-1977 Forest land and timber appraiser based in Seattle with contracts through-out the western US, and then based in Portland with work in Oregon and Washington
• Pilot training (commercial license, single engine land and sea, instrument rating an agricultural applicator endorsement) with goal of aerial photography and reconnaissance
• Welder in a ship yard, and "itinerant hippie"
• 1977-1980 Forestry instructor at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon
• 1980-present Community college institutional research specialist
• Plan to retire in January, 2014, to sea kayak, trek in the back country, and build classic wooden row/sail boats

Family and hobbies

• Children's school community advisory board, children sports teams, outdoor adventures children and youth groups
• Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop leader, summer camp director, and course director for BSA adult leader training program for 25 years
• Recently interested in emergency preparedness and amateur radio, and am a course director and trainer in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program and a coordinator for the county Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES)
• Volunteer on the radio communication team for the Eagle Cap Extreme Sled Dog race in Wallowa County, Oregon in January
• Wife Carolyn is a professional graphic artist for the staff at the college. For the last seven years she has developed a home business selling photography and ceramic tiles at fine art shows, galleries and craft markets. We do about 25 shows per year in Oregon and Washington. She is the Creative Director and Artist. I am her equipment maintenance and finishing helper and her "roadie". IF, I say IF, she had a pay roll, I would be listed a Fetch N. Carry, general labor.

Fond Memories

• Sock hops as the first class in the new South Mercer Junior High School
• Fishing at Luther Burbank on hot summer evenings, harassing the sea gulls that tried to steal our bait, and listening to the frogs in the moon light
• Water skiing jump-starts off the dock when the lake was low
• Racing Penguin class sailboats off the Corinthian Yacht Club docks at Leschi
• Operating the soft ice cream machine at the snack stand in the Mushroom at lunch and during basket ball games
• Developing film and printing pictures in the photography darkroom across the hall from Mr Miller's physics room
• Sliding dry ice down the chalk trays and across the slate-top lab tables in the physics lab
• Falling on my butt in my white dinner jacket after stepping on a slimy camellia flower on a wet wooden deck while picking up my date for the Senior Prom
• Struggling up to Dutch Miller Gap and across Paddy-Go-Easy Pass, then down to the Icicle River to fish, and finally out to Stevens Pass on the Explorer Scout week-long summer hike
• Ski busses to Stevens Pass
• Christmas vacation snow camping at Chinook Pass and cross-country skiing in the moon light
